Chapter 15
In this Chapter we got to take a look into religion and what happened to it as the modern societies started to form. Before we talk about the changes I want to first talk about Christianity its self and how there was a split, so there was the Roman Catholics of Western and Central Europe and there was the Eastern Orthodox Church of Eastern Europe and Russia. After that a new split began in the Roman Catholic church when there was a note saying how corrupt the church was and not only that but that at the end of the day you did not have to listen to someone else interpretation of the bible when you could just read and interpret it yourself. After this there was big backlash from people and the Protestant Church was started. This caused a Catholic reformation or counter reformation to fix or address all of the issues that were wrong in the catholic church. But there was still tension between catholic and protestant church and this led to a 30 year basically war between them and it caused a lot of peoples lives. Now moving on to the spread of Christianity. One of the reasons for expansion was always to spread religion and when the Spanish took over territories like the Philippines or the Americas that was very easy, because they were basically in control already so natives didn't really have a choice but to do so. One thing that was interesting to me though was that despite them having switched over to Christianity from the Spanish at the end of the day each region kindve added their own spin to it making it unique. One of the things that was interesting was that if you take a look at Europeans trying to spread religion in China or India it was very different because they couldn't not just come and take over land like they did in the Americas because the Chinese would've simply destroyed them. When they went to China they had to ask for permission to simply " exchange ideas about religion. And although they did get some people to convert over to Christianity the effect was no where near close to that of the Americas.
